Thus far, Murray’s superiority has flowed from canny tactics and an understanding that you do not want to get drawn into a stand-up brawl with Kyrgios – a man with a loose arm and ferocious racket-head speed.
The best way to defuse the Australian’s forehand bombs is to give him few opportunities to prime them in the first place, and that means throwing in a lot of slow slices and drop shots. Kyrgios cannot line up too many piledrivers when the ball is dying around his ankles.
“He’s in form,” Kyrgios said of Murray. “He’s probably playing the best tennis of his life, winning Montreal and losing to Federer last week. So I know that he’s one of the best players in the world at the moment. I just have to go out there and play the right style of game and believe I can win.”

After Heather Watson’s limp exit on Monday, the other five Britons in the main draw are all in action on Tuesday, and no one has an unwinnable match.
While Johanna Konta and Laura Robson face Louisa Chirico and Elena Vesnina respectively, James Ward is up against the 30th seed Thomaz Bellucci and Aljaz Bedene will play the eccentric Latvian Ernests Gulbis, who must be one of the few men on the tour who makes Kyrgios look understated.

“There’s a meeting in France on Nov 16 or 17 with the board of the International Tennis Federation,” Bedene said yesterday. “I am personally going there, so we’ll see how that goes.”
