His 1953 novel, Land and Blood, now translated by Patricia Geesey, takes place in the 1930s in the small Algerian village of Ighil-Nezman, in a corner of Kabylia.

L'histoire qui va suivre a été réellement vécue dans un coin de Kabylie desservi par une route, ayant une école minuscule, une mosqué blanche, visible de loin, et plusieurs maisons surmentées d'un étage. On admettra sans doute qu'un cadre si ordinaire ne soit le témoin que de banales existences, car les principaux personnages dont l'histoire sera relatée n'ont rien d'exceptionnel. Very well written but I wasn't in the mood for the very bad end which was coming, so I stopped. I will (maybe) try it again later.
Why isn't there a an 'abandoned' option ?
Vraiment bien écrit mais la terrible fin prévisble me déprimait donc j'ai laissé tombre. Je le reprendrais (peut-être) plus tard.
